Adori sat in the back room of the temple of the Naaru, reading a scroll she'd taken down from a shelf. She was so engrossed in her reading she didn't know another was in the small room until a hand yanked the scroll from her hands, making her jump and look up with a gasp.
"You are NOT to be reading those, young one!"
Adori stood as she stood, her chainmail leggings clinking softly. Her legs were stiff; too much time sitting, reading. Next time she'd have to take breaks between scrolls to stand. She looked at the large paladin who loomed over her, the scroll in one hand. His warhammer was on his hip, its head larger than her upper body. "But--"
"But nothing! You are forbidden from reading these! I have told you time and time and time again! These scrolls are not for eyes as yours!" The paladin stormed past her and shoved the scroll onto a shelf high up, noticing Adori must have stood on something to reach it. "Your studies provide you with all you need to know; if you need to know more, I will tell you then."
Adori crossed her arms across her armored chest. "Is knowledge so scarce we must ration it so it does not run out?"
The paladin wheeled on her angrily, a hand tightening on his warhammer. Why had the Naaru vexed him with such unluck to have such a stubborn child as his charge? Wasn't taking his wife and child in the crash enough? "How DARE you speak to your elder like that! Do not forget you are here by the grace of the Naaru, whom you mock when you disobey the laws of the temple!"
Adori opened her mouth to speak when a female voice interrupted.
"And what does the Narru feel ill toward the subject of seeking knowledge? I am sure that isn't so, for many of Draenei are doomed when they venture outside the Exodor's walls" A priestess stepped into the room, her eyes looking at the paladin. "I am sure that your young apprentice would not be forsaken by the Naaru for reading scrolls, Najad."
Najad pointed a large hand at the priestess, how dare she interferre! "You have no say in this matter, priest; you are not her mentor, nor are you a paladin."
The priestess only smiled. "Are we not all of the Naaru? Are we not intertwined by fate? Your actions, my actions, they all effect others around us. Surely, a great paladin like yourself is not too blind to see that."
Najad was not impressed, he was angrier at the way she spoke almost mockingly to him. "You are not even a High Priestess; you do not belong in these cooridors, go back to your staff weilding and healing, leave us to our lessons."
Adori tried not to bring attention to herself, she watched the dialogue between the two elders silently. She stepped to the side and knocked over a pile of books she'd read earlier, swooping to pick them up as Najad wheeled on her. "You little--"
"ENOUGH!" The priestess shouted, and a burst ot power came from her, making pages of books flip and scrolls roll, filling the room with the warm feeling of the Naaru, leaving sparkles in the air. She pointed at Najad. "How DARE you speak to one of the Naaru with such disrespect!" She held a hand out to the young girl. "Come, young friend, you can come with me. I will let you learn all you wish if it is within my power to do so." Adori skirted past the angry Najad and went toward the priestess.
Najad stalked toward the priestess, hand taking his warhammer from his side. "You cannot take this....." he hesitated, searching for a word, "..child."
The priestess stepped in front of the young paladin calmly, smiling an unpleasant smile as she put her hand on the mace that hung on her own hip. Holy power rippled around her, her cloth robes hardening almost like armor. "Go ahead... try it, Najad. The High Priests and Paladins would not think highly of you trying to harm two of the next in line for High Priest and Paladin."
Najad looked at her, blinking for a moment. Two?
A young female paladin stepped into the doorway behind the priestess, one gentle hand on the younger paladin's shoulder, the other held a sword. Alenea's eyes were hard as she looked at Najad, disappointed that a paladin would treat another so cruely. "Radia...." the paladin said softly, her eyes never leaving Najad, "is there a problem?" If Radia said 'yes', it was all the warning Najad was going to get. She'd heard from some of the priests how Najad was treating his newest charge, an orphan whom the Naaru chose for the path of a protector. Bullies did not belong in temples. She and Radia were planning on bringing her to their 'family' of friends whose bond was tighter than blood.
Radia turned her back completely on Najad, either trusting that he wouldn't hit her, or Alenea would strike first before he tried. "Come, young friend," she said to Adori, "let us take you home."
