As healers, the last thing we want is for the target to ignore the tank... and go to us. Healers are normally squishier than our DPS and tanking counterparts. I know Hunter pets who can outlast some healers.
The problem I've noticed, is healers are taking the threats off the tanks. How? Healing.
Healers CANNOT throw their largest heals out on tanks and expect that their tanks can always counter the aggro. Basically, if you heal more points than the tank does damage, the Mob is going to look up and go "oohhh pretty!" and charge toward the healer.
To avoid this, I suggest that medium to low heals are thrown out on the tank until you are absoultely certain they have agro, then let the heals fly!
As a priest, I normally throw my Power Word: Shield, a Renew (HoT), and my Prayer of Mending. Until I am sure that my tank has aggro for certain, I usually stay with Flash Heal if he/she absoultely needs healing.
It might take a few more heals due to the smaller size, but its better than saying "Healer down!"
