(Normally I would think this is common sense, but lately I have ran with people in groups (pugs and not) who seemed to not understand these concepts, so I am putting them out for ALL healers.)
MUSTS for healers:
MUSTS for healers:
- If you are put in a raid/group as a Tank Healer, be it MT, or OT, your tank is FIRST priority, not ONLY. You can help out with party/group heals too, ESPECIALLY if you are are priest. We have more group heals than paladins and shamans. Do not think just because you are given a tank that means you only have to heal the tank. You can help lessen the load of the other healers, which helps us all.
- Do not only target one person and heal them in a party because they are your significant other/friend/guildmate and you think they are your first (or only) priority. Or give everyone else small heals (i.e. Renews) and maybe a Prayer of Mending that jumps. It doesn't heal enough. I've seen people who would heal the DPS before the tank due to these reasons. If the tank goes down, you all die. Heal the tank, heal your party.
- HoTs and a priest's Prayer of Mending are not large heals. Use them for burst damage mitigation, use them to heal someone while you switch to another target to heal, but they are not your main heals. Please do not put them on someone and think they are good for the rest of the boss fight.
- Power Word: Shield can be thrown on tanks/targets to help with your healing! Warriors and Druids now get rage if the shield is hit, as of patch 3.1! Use this to help with your healing by mitigating damage!
- Keep an eye on your own health and mana. Honestly, no one else is unless there is more than one healer. Tanks should keep an eye on their healer's mana, but make sure to heal yourself.
- If you have something on you and you do NOT say anything and die due to it, you deserved it. Put it in Vent, or in chat channel. You should have a cooldown on your threat killer, i.e. Fade, etc. It's what its there for. Use it.
- Don't think just because you are a healer that you will automatically make it to any group/raid you want. Word travels fast if you are a bad healer who only targets one person and lets the others die even if they are beside you, or you only cast Renews or HoTs on tanks and not any large heals. I have seen many healers be passed over for groups because when someone goes to invite someone, a person in party says "Don't invite them, I ran with them in (fill in instance here) and they (fill in reason here)." Believe me, just because you are a healer, does not give you special priviliges.
